Sheffield Teaching Hospitals – Linear Accelerator

We provided civil and structural engineering services, including: Radiation-protected concrete ‘bunker’ rooms for a linear accelerator machine An extension/conversion to create new treatment areas Chiller plant compound Initially appointed to review design proposals from others, our appointment was extended to include designing the foundations, suspended ground floor slab, steel frame, concrete construction, underground surface and foul water drainage, external works build-ups, and retaining walls. We also provided support for the contractor’s appointment.


Health & Wellbeing Hub at Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Health & Wellbeing Hub at Chesterfield Royal Hospital

We provided civil and structural design services for this new, standalone Health & Wellbeing Hub within the hospital grounds. Opened for the NHS’s 75th anniversary, the multi-purpose centre supports hospital colleagues with workshops, classes, counselling, complementary therapies and relaxation, and a gym. Awarded as a Design & Build contract via the NHS Shared Business Services Framework, the original design team was retained by the contractor.


Fortrea Clinical Research Unit, Leeds

Fortrea Clinical Research Unit, Leeds

We assisted in the revival of an existing building at the historic Drapers Yard in Leeds to create a new UK Centre of Excellence for Fortrea. The project involved the refurbishment of a concrete-framed two-storey 1950s warehouse building into an advanced clinical research unit offering new laboratories, offices, and a roof-level amenity space.

Bradford Royal Infirmary, Obstetric Theatres & Labour Ward

Adept was appointed by Interserve to provide civil and structural engineering services for a significant upgrade to the maternity facilities at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI). The project involved the construction of a new two-storey extension to house modern obstetric operating theatres, alongside the reconfiguration and refurbishment of the existing labor ward. The scheme was delivered within a live hospital environment, requiring careful planning and coordination to ensure uninterrupted clinical operations throughout the works.


Bradford Royal Infirmary, NeoNatal Home from Home Unit

Bradford Royal Infirmary, NeoNatal Home from Home Unit

The project involves the design of a new standalone building adjacent to the existing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Bradford Royal Infirmary. The facility will provide overnight accommodation and support spaces for families with babies in intensive care. The scheme is being developed in partnership with the Sick Children’s Trust, who will co-fund and operate the facility once completed. The building sits on a sloping site and includes a small amount of internal refurbishment within the existing NICU footprint. The project is currently at RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design).


Ophthalmology Outpatients, Barnsley

Ophthalmology Outpatients, Barnsley

Adept were appointed to deliver civil and structural engineering design services for Phase 1 of Barnsley Hospital’s ‘Health on the High Street‘ programme, understood to be the UK’s largest relocation of hospital outpatient services. The scheme will transform parts of the Alhambra shopping centre to create convenient health services within the heart of the town centre.
